The department seeks students who enjoy and are curious about: cultural artifacts; objects and products; mechanisms; materials and processes; inventions and innovations; technology; and marketing. These potential designers should be interested in changing their world. They should see technology as a way of improving life on many levels. They should be motivated to create objects that solve human needs and address human wants. The Department of Industrial Design attracts and retains excellent students who become leading industrial designers.

Step Two: Meet Qualifying Requirements for Design
The University Admissions Office will determine the academic qualifications of applicants by reviewing SAT/ACT scores, grade point averages, and high school class rank, and other indicators of academic success. The names of students who meet qualifying criteria will be forwarded to the College of Design for further consideration. Referred applicants will be contacted by the College of Design and invited to Admissions Review Days which will occur during late January and early February. Due to the number of applicants being seen, appointments cannot be rescheduled unless there are extreme extenuating circumstances.
