The Natural Learning Initiative (NLI) invites you to participate in the 6th annual design institute titled Design for Children IN Nature from August 7-9, 2008. The Institute will be hosted by the Marbles Kids Museum in downtown Raleigh.
The Natural Learning Intitiative is inviting Dr. Martin Maudsley, Leonie Labistour, and Daniel Rees-Jones (UK) to help us rediscover the magic of being in nature. He and expert colleagues will lead two sessions of play and refelctions at the Prairie Ridge Ecostation for Wildlife and Learning. Presentations on the importance of contact with nature, design implications and solutions will help conceptualize the interactive day and bring meaning to proposed environmental changes to take to your spaces back home.
The Natural Learning Initiative promotes the importance of the natural environment in the daily experience of all children and families through environmental design, action, research, education, and dissemination of information. The aim of the Design Institute is to assist you and your organization in designing environments that will bring children in closer contact with nature.
Participants include architects, landscape architects, designers, public health professionals, childcare providers, educators, extension agents, master gardeners, parks and recreation professionals, horticultural therapists, and other individuals interested in creating natural environments for children.
