Please read these instructions carefully!
StudioNet provides high-speed data network access
to Design students currently enrolled in sophomore level or higher
studio courses. There is no additional charge for accessing the network
through StudioNet.
We recommend you request a wired connection to use
at your studio desk and use a wireless connection (if you have one)
other places within the College of Design complex.
Students will need
to go through several steps to properly connect to StudioNet. Instructions
are below. READ and follow the steps below
carefully. Most questions WILL be answered—REALLY!
Minimum Macintosh
Configuration
• Hardware: Desktop or laptop running at 1.5 GHz or better
• Operating System: Mac OS X version 10.4 or later
(version 10.5 or later preferred.)
Minimum Windows Configuration
• Hardware: Desktop or laptop running at 1.5
GHz or better
• Operating System: Windows XP Professional or Vista Business. Windows
Home Editions NOT Recommended
Up-to-date AntiVirus software is REQUIRED FOR ALL COMPUTERS
used on StudioNet. Symantec AntiVirus is available free to NC State students at http://www.ncsu.edu/antivirus/
You will also need to install other software to access your Unity account
and WolfPrint printers.
To access the StudioNet network, you
will need to—
- Follow the instructions for the kind of connection you wish to use.
If you want to use two kinds of connections, come back to this page
and follow the other instructions.
- Find an available walljack or wireless network
- Get an ethernet cable for wired connection (available at the NCSU
Bookstores) or wireless ethernet adapter for wireless connection
- Connect your computer to the walljack (and/or wireless)
- Configure your TCP/IP settings
- Check your connection
- Install and configure software for virus protection (http://www.ncsu.edu/antivirus/)
- Install and configure software for WolfPrint printing, Unity home
space access if you wish to use these.
Follow the appropriate instructions below
for wired or wireless connection and the building where you wish
to connect. If you wish to use both a wired and wireless connection,
follow the both sets of instructions below.
WIRED CONNECTIONS: Students
wanting to use a WIRED connection in Brooks, Kamphoefner or Leazar
