Paul R. Battaglia

Paul Battaglia currently teaches at North Caroline State University. His general research interests include architectural history and theory, pedagogy and urbanism: with a more specific concentration in the work of Aldo Rossi. He is also interested in study abroad programs and has taken many students on trips throughout western Europe.

On various occasions, he has served as a visiting critic and lecturer at James Madison University, Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Houston.

He arrived at the College of Design after teaching for two years at Virginia Tech and practicing for nearly ten years in Richmond, Virginia. During that time, he worked on a variety of projects ranging from residential renovations and additions to large aviation, corporate and healthcare projects. He also served as chair of the Virginia Society Design Committee and organized an annual lecture series that invited award-winning practitioners and academics to share their work with the local architectural community.

He is perhaps most proud of the rehabilitation of 619 North 27th Street: a historically sensitive renovation of a single-family residence, executed by Battaglia and his wife, which received an award from the Alliance for the Conservation of Old Richmond Neighborhoods.
