Architecture Study Abroad Programs

The School of Architecture offers study abroad opportunities in the form of semester-long exchange programs, summer studios, and travel study. Participating students must enroll in ARC 289 (undergraduates) or ARC 589 (graduates), Architectural Travel Study. The aim of these courses is to refine students’ appreciation and understanding of architecture, hone their observation faculties, and improve their drawing skills.

The Prague Institute

In 2005 the College of Design established the Prague Institute in the Czech Republic as a year-round university study abroad center. The institute is located in the heart of the Old City where semester, summer and intersession courses and studios are offered. These activities are supported and directed by a resident Director and taught by NC State faculty and local designers and scholars. The Institute serves as a home base for the exploration of educational, research and professional opportunities in other European countries. Each fall semester undergraduate and graduate architecture students spend a semester at the Prague Institute.

Semester-Long Student Exchange Programs

The School of Architecture, in conjunction with the Study Abroad Office, has agreements with several overseas institutions to conduct bilateral student exchange programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Participating overseas schools are as follows. Fachhochschule, Stuttgart, Germany Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland, University of the Basque Country, San Sebastian, Spain, Istanbul Technical University, Turkey, and Manchester Metropolitan University, England.
