Opening address: Rich Killingsworth, director of Active Living by Design.

Closing keynotes: Doug Kelbaugh, Dean, Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, University of Michigan willl present "Sprawl, a Conspiracy of Good Intentions" and Nashville Mayor Bill Purcell will wrap up the conference with "A View from the Top: Making it Happen."

Designing Communities for Healthy Living will provide practical learning experiences for designers, planners, government officials and public health professionals to design or facilitate environments that encourage physical activity and promote mixed-use development. Experts on design and public health will make the link between the built environment and physical activity and highlight design strategies for promoting healthy, active living. Topics covered will include neighborhood design (new and infill), work and school environments, green infrastructure, transportation and government planning and codes that promote such environments. Practicing designers, developers, planners and city officials will present break-out sessions throughout the day. Projects from large and small communities around the region and the state, including Charlotte, Raleigh and Davidson, will be presented. Continuing education credits for architects, landscape architects and planners will be available (see below). Box lunch and refreshments provided.

Fee:
$135 per person ($155 after Jan. 21st)
$ 95 per person when 5 or more participants from the same municipal/government group register together and pay together
$ 35 for university students ($55 after Jan. 21st) (Sponsor a student by adding $35 to your registration amount.)
