Computing is an essential part of life at the College of Design. Whether it's students working all night on their own computers in the studios, classes held in one of the computer labs, or faculty and staff working in their offices, computers are running day and night at the college. Supporting these computers falls to the Information Technology department, which provides computing and data network support to all faculty, staff, and students in the College of Design. The Information Technology staff offices are located in Brooks 202204. Support is provided for Macintosh and Windows computers. Online Technical Support pages are available to assist users in solving computer problems on their own. Users should check there first if they have a question. If the answer isn't there, they should send an email to design_help@ncsu.edu. Soon after you send that message you will receive an email reply containing links for you to check on the status of your message. The Information Technology Laboratory is the main computing facility for the college. The IT department also operates other smaller cluster labs around the college. Students taking studio courses have access to a high-speed data network at their desks through StudioNet. Wireless networking is also available throughout the College. The college requires many students to purchase their own computer. See Student Computer Purchase Requirements for more information. Audio-Visual, photographic, and computing equipment is available for checkout. The telephone number for the IT Lab checkout window is 515-3160. A photographic studio and darkrooms are also available. Use of these resources is strictly limited to students currently enrolled in Design courses. |
