Applicants currently attending NC State University are considered On-Campus Transfers and must submit an On-Campus Transfer Application by December 1 (see PDF link at right). Hard copy applications may be obtained at the College of Design in Brooks Hall, Dean's Suite. Transcripts will be retrieved electronically on January 11, 2008 to verify academic requirements from fall semester coursework. No changes will be accepted once grades are verified. To be considered for review, applicants must have completed at least 15 semester hours at NC State University by the end of fall semester of 2007, and attained a minimum 2.7 grade point average (GPA). Fifteen (15) additional hours must be completed by the end spring semester of 2008, making a total of 30 hours with a minimum overall average GPA of 2.7 for acceptance to be confirmed. Of the 15 hours completed per semester, a maximum of 3 hours can be accepted as credit-only courses. Final transcripts will be retrieved on May 30, 2008.*

*Admitted On- and Off-Campus Transfers will enter as first-year design students in the following fall semester and will be required to complete 8 or 10 semesters in design studios.
*Admissions requirements and processes vary among programs. Applicants should consult College of Design specific academic units for program descriptions and portfolio requirements.
Lateral Transfer
A lateral transfer is a student studying in a comparable art or design program at another four-year accredited institution. Lateral transfers generally request transfer at the sophomore level and will have completed 12 credits in design that are equivalent to courses offered at NC State. Courses taken must match Design Fundamentals (DF 101 and one of the following: ARC 102, ADN 102, GD 102, ID 102, or LAR 102). The applicant must apply to NC State Undergraduate Admissions Office and must meet all qualifying requirements for transfer students.
Students who have earned previous degrees in art and design that do not wish to pursue graduate study may qualify in some departments for admission to the bachelor's program. An applicant is accepted as a lateral transfer by the decision of the department chair or school director of the target program.
All lateral transfer students must submit an application for admission to North Carolina State University before November 1 to enter the following spring semester or before April 1 to enter in the following fall semester. Admission as a lateral transfer is on a "space-available" basis. An applicant is designated as a lateral transfer only at the request of the applicant and cannot simultaneously be an applicant in the first-year admissions pool.
Transcripts from all previous colleges or universities will be used in calculating the GPA for the purpose of academic screening by the Undergraduate Admissions Office. For spring entrance, all transfer applicants must have completed 15 semester hours and have a 2.7 GPA by the end of the fall semester of application. For fall entrance, applicants must maintain the 2.7 GPA and have completed a total of 30 semester hours by the end of the spring semester. No more than 3 hours per semester may be completed by credit only.
Students interested in determining course equivalencies of general education courses from previous study should consult the General Education Requirements of NC State University. Preliminary advising and portfolio evaluations will no longer be offered to prospective lateral applicants. Students interested in determining course equivalencies should consult the General Education Requirements link above. Studio placement will be determined at the time of acceptance.
